The Bible often uses hyperbole, contrasting love with hate, for the sake of emphasis. To say that God is “all loving,” as the ungodly so often maintain, is to create an idol to worship. God is love, but He is also just, holy, and righteous. He loves us because He chooses to; He is not a slave to sentiment.
Malachi 1:2 “I have loved you,” says the Lord. “Yet you say, ‘In what way have You loved us?’ Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?” Says theLord. “Yet Jacob I have loved;3 But Esau I have hated, And laid waste his mountains and his heritage For the jackals of the wilderness.”
