Unthinking skeptics often point to this verse, Isaiah 45:7, and accuse God of being evil. But Scripture tells us that God brings calamity (KJV, “evil”) on mankind as just punishment for their sins. He does this for the purpose of leading people to repent and turn to Him. But those who fail to do so will be held accountable for their evil deeds and will ultimately face eternal punishment in Hell. See also Amos 3:6; Lam. 3:38,39.
I form the light and create darkness, I make peace and create calamity; I, the Lord, do all these things (Isaiah 45:7)
