How each of us can identify with Jonah! We too have been told to “go” and speak to the world about its great wickedness that has come before God.
We may identify with the prophet, but God forbid that we should imitate him. He fled “from the presence of the LORD.” A fish would do better to try to flee from the presence of the ocean. Although God may manifest Himself in certain places, it is to follow in the folly of Adam to imagine that we can run from His presence (see Gen. 3:8). God is omnipresent.
Jonah 1:1 Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me.” 3 But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.
