Many professing Christians.

“Let us awake to a sense of the perilous state of many professing Christians. ‘Without holiness no man shall see the Lord’; without sanctification there is no salvation (Hebrews 12:14). Then what an enormous amount of so-called religion there is which is perfectly useless!” J. C. Ryle

One Response to Many professing Christians.

  1. Elizabeth K. Jennings says:

We should all strive to be holy, but as God fore-knew, that was impossible, for all but the most devout. But, with Jesus, we CAN be holy. Our holiness may not be perfect, no one’s ever is, as Jesus is the only perfect one. It’s His forgiveness and cleansing us with His blood that makes us acceptable to God. Because when God looks at us, He doesn’t see US, He sees the Blood of Jesus covering us, making us wholly acceptable to Him. I try to be the person God wants me to be, the person He intended for me to be. But I fell short so much, that if it weren’t for Jesus, I never would have been able to go to Heaven. Jesus and the Holy Spirit were so patient with me — that even when I wasn’t following Him, He was following ME — keeping me safe and having the Holy Spirit work with me, and on me, until I realized what I was doing, and came back to Him, repenting and asking forgiveness. I have been a Christian since childhood — truly! I believe God set me aside because I have had faith in Him and in Jesus since I was about 4 years old!!! I understood who They were, and learned, at that young age, that They could be trusted and would help me when I cried out to Them. (long story!) But, as most young people do, I went through a period of time where I was doing what I wanted to do and not giving much thought to the Lord at all. But I later on, I could look back and see how He was with me, protecting me, the whole time, and was patiently waiting for me to come back to Him. And ever since I did, I have been growing closer and closer to Them, and now, the desire of my heart is to be a Voice for Him, on Facebook, or wherever He leads me. He is teaching me HOW to be a Voice for Him through the Holy Spirit and I am eagerly awaiting the day when I “graduate”. How loving and gracious He is to me, how patient He is, and when He has to correct me, He does it lovingly and I learn the lesson He’s wanting me to learn!! I don’t know if I’ll ever reach that holy state that Hebrews speaks of, but I’m working on it, with all my heart and soul!! As they say — “I’m a work in progress!” Thank you so much for your devotionals and encouraging words — they are very much appreciated!!
