Our aim when preaching the gospel is to make the issue clear to sinners. We must put the writing on the wall—that God has seen their sin and will judge them for it. When God gave His Law, “so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, “I am exceedingly afraid and trembling”’ (Heb. 12:21). It is the thundering of the Law, echoing in the resurrected conscience, that makes the sinner’s knees tremble. Felix “trembled” when Paul reasoned with him about “righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come” (Acts 24:25).
Daniel 5:5 In the same hour the fingers of a man’s hand appeared and wrote opposite the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace; and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.6 Then the king’s countenance changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his hips were loosened and histknees knocked against each other.
