Tip for open-air preaching.

On the sidewalk in front of you, draw a chalk line or place some colorful masking tape in a semi-circle 12–15 feet from your “soapbox.” (Be sure to remove it before you leave.) When people stop to listen, ask them, “Could you do me a big favor? To save my voice, could you step up to this line? It will also mean that I don’t have to ‘yell’ at you to be heard (which sounds rude and unloving). Thank you.” This will not only help your voice, but it will help to draw others to hear the gospel. A closer, more orderly crowd is more attractive to potential listeners than one that is straggly.

The craftsman stretches out hisrule,

He marks one out with chalk;

He fashions it with a plane,

He marks it out with the compass,

And makes it like the figure of a man,

According to the beauty of a man, that it may remain in the house. (Isaiah 44:13)
