“God commanded Abraham to do something that He had previously forbidden: sacrifice a human being. The location of this human sacrifice would be on a mountain of God’s choosing.
“While Abraham and his soon-to-be-sacrificed son, Isaac, were walking, Isaac noticed that they did not have a lamb for a sacrifice (v. 7). And Abraham said, ‘My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering’ (v. 8).
“We know that God stopped Abraham from sacrificing his only son on a mountain in the land of Moriah. But did God ever provide a lamb for the sacrifice? Approximately 2,000 years later, God sacrificed His only beloved Son, Jesus Christ, on a mountain in the land of Moriah (present-day Jerusalem).
“The story of Abraham and Isaac is a shadowy picture of a near-death experience of a beloved son in Jerusalem. In this story, the son was spared. The next time the sacrifice of a son was required, God did not stop. God did not spare His only beloved Son that we might have the complete forgiveness of sins. Indeed, the Lord did provide a Lamb.” Todd Friel (Adapted from Don’t Stub Your Toe.)
Genesis 22: 2 Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”
