1 Samuel 19:9 is the third time Saul attempted to murder David. And it was all because Saul allowed the seed of jealousy to find root in the dirty soil of his sinful heart (see 18:8). Love rejoices at another’s success, while jealousy invites the spirit of hatred to enter and take up residence. Be so filled with the love of God that there is no room for any subtle sin. See Rom. 13:8–10 for how the Law and love are synonymous.
1 Samuel 19:9 Now the distressing spirit from the Lord came upon Saul as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand. And David was playing music with hishand.10 Then Saul sought to pin David to the wall with the spear, but he slipped away from Sauls presence; and he drove the spear into the wall. So David fled and escaped that night.
